Our History
With over four decades of experience in the decorating industry, Spiers Decorating Contractors has grown from a sole trader business to a leading decorating firm serving clients across London and the South East. Spiers was founded by Doug Spiers in 1977, who started out sub-contracting painting and decorating services to large developers in the Essex area. As demand grew in the 1980s, the workforce expanded to over 80 skilled painters and decorators.
In 2001, Doug brought his family into the business, transferring Spiers into a limited company run by his son and brother. Today, Spiers continues thriving, gaining contracts with major housing developers like Kier and Taylor Wimpey. With a strong reputation built over 45 years, Spiers provides quality painting, decorating and finishing across residential, commercial and industrial projects.
1977
Spiers Decorating was founded
Doug Spiers started the business in 1977 as a sole trader.
1987
Grows to 80 painters and decorators
The business expanded to meet growing demand during the housing boom.
2001
Becomes a limited company
Spiers is a limited company and Doug’s son and brother take on major roles.
2017
Reaches a turnover of £4 million
The business continues to thrive, with an annual turnover of £4 million.
2023
Takeover by Marquee Group
Doug Spiers retired and the business is taken on by Marquee Group.
2024
Partnership with Intelligent Membranes
Expanding into airtight membranes in partnership with Intelligent Membranes.
