Location: Eel Pie Island, Twickenham, Middlesex
Client: Twickenham Rowing Club
Project Value: £60,000
Contract Period: 12 weeks
Spiers were commissioned to carry out a series of redecoration works for this historical rowing club based on the privately owned Eel Pie Island situated in the River Thames at Twickenham. The building itself dates back to 1880 and is largely timber framed.
This phased project involved working on a flood plain with highly restricted access. No vehicles are allowed on the island, therefore all materials and equipment had to be transported via a pathway from the main bridge by hand.
With funding for this project being released at different times and from different sources we had to sensitively schedule the work, taking into account the rowing season and general needs of a busy and highly active club.
Summary of Works:
- Emulsion to walls and ceilings
- Satin paint to woodwork
- Wallcoverings
- Varnishing
Special attention had to be given to health and safety due to the proximity of the site and the main delivery point and entrance to the island.
